Kimberly
“A bag as a song, as a great rock song. Songs about women, songs that strongly influenced the world revolution brought about by rock music during the Sixties and Seventies.”
One more bag for the Rock Ladies Collection designed by the ancient Neapolitan manufacturer: a limited edition bag inspired to a great international artist.
A memorable bag to wear and collect: this is the core idea of Kimberly, the new Tramontano design dedicated to one of the first hits by the American singer-songwriter Patti Smith.
After Sweet Jane, designed for the famous Lou Reed’ song, Kimberly is the second bag made by Tramontano for the Rock Ladies Collection: a project started in 2007 through which Tramontano wants to celebrate the Rock Ladies: seducing, charismatic unforgettable as the songs written for them by the most famous artists of the Sixties and Seventies.
Why did Tramontano choose Patti Smith?
With her angry, feverish , grieved voice, the famous Americana singer-songwriter embodied one of the most explosive feminine characters of rock history. Her first songs back in the Seventies, laid the ground works of the then rising new wave, and her character -half an obscure priestess and half a political ‘pasionaria’- stood out as one of the most charismatic characters of feminine rock.
"Kimberly" is a typical new wave ballad from “Horses” -Patti Smith’s first album- that invented a new musical style in rock history, by sinking down completely the “bel canto” singing style that had been popular till then, and giving space, instead, to some rough punk way of singing.
Kimberly is a soft pack-saddle bag, entirely handmade by the Tramontano artisans, in suede and calfskin with some metal finishing characterized by a strong and gritty style. The bag is going to be produced in seven different suede colors: seven as the musical notes.
As an extra – like for Lou Reed’ Sweet Jane - this bag comes with a picture of Patti Smith by photographer Guido Harari who, since the Seventies, has been taking pictures of all the international rock and jazz music myths.
Only 250 numbered bags are available as of the end of November 2008, at the price of €240, directly from Tramontano workshop to the shops in Naples, Capri, Milan, Salerno, on-line through our web site, and to a few more selected international distributors.
